The size of the problem

Most food is thrown away by the people who bought it.

19%

of all food available to consumers is thrown away

60%

of that waste happens at home, not in shops or restaurants

79 kg

of food binned per person, every year

Source: UNEP Food Waste Index Report 2024, based on 2022 data.

The problem is rarely the fridge. It is that nobody can see what is inside it.

Setting it up

Three steps, then it runs itself.

What is actually in the lid

One coin cell, four cheap parts, no camera. The sensors measure conditions. The freshness estimate is worked out on your phone from those conditions, so the hardware stays inexpensive.

Temperature and humidity reads the air inside the box, every few minutes Bluetooth radio and coin cell wakes when your phone is near, lasts about a year Lid-open detector counts how long the cold gets out Load cell in the base confirms something went in or came out
What it does

Everything you would have to remember, remembered.

What is inside a kit

Built from modules, not a fixed set.

Start with the categories you actually use, then add to it.

The same modules on open pantry shelves, holding coffee, tea, snacks, cereal, nuts, pasta, dry goods, baking supplies and grains.

Dairy & Drinks

Milk, yoghurt, opened cartons, the things that quietly turn.

Eggs

Counted automatically as you take them out.

Meat & Protein

The category where a warm hour costs the most days.

Vegetables

Humidity tracked, because limp is not the same as spoiled.

Fruits

Separated from vegetables, the way they should be.

Ready to Eat

Leftovers with a clock on them.
